Sylvia Kazumi Rijmer

Studied Dance at The Juilliard School (USA), Elmhurst Ballet School (GB), The Netherlands Ballet Academy (NL), Sumber Cipta Ballet School (Indonesia) and ESD. Received the following certificates/awards: BFA in Dance (The Juilliard School); GCSE Southern Examining Group (Elmhurst Ballet School); International Baccalaureate Certificate (International School of Kenya); Elementary Level & Intermediate Level (Royal Academy of Dance); Elementary Modern Theater Dance & Modern Theater Dance Tap Dancing (Imperial Society of Dancing); Phillip Morris Award / International Theater School Festival (NL) at Paul Taylor’s Esplanade with the Juilliard Dance Ensemble. Professionally, Rijmer has worked with the following companies: Ballet Gulbenkian; Olga Roriz Company; Tok’art; Ana Roethlisberger Co. (CH); Marcel Leemann Physical Dance Theater (CH); Dansity (NL); Ballet Bern (CH); Motleni Company (CH); Cie. DRIFT (CH); Company Pool (CH); Stadttheater Giessen (DE). She has worked with choreographers Stijn Célis, Marie Chouinard, Gilles Jobin, Hervé Robbe, Didy Veldman, Örjan Andersson, Félix Dúmeril, Nils Christe, Jacopo Godani, Foofwa D'Immobiité, Roberto Galván, Pierre Wyss, Lila York, Philippe Saire, Olga Roriz and Rui Horta. She has danced in pieces by Ohad Naharin, Mauro Bigonzetti, David Parsons, Paul Taylor, Martha Graham, José Limón and Jiří Kylián.

As an assayer, she has worked with Olga Roriz on the plays Terra, Orfeu e Euridíce and Sagração da Primavera.

As a choreographer, she has presented the following pieces: 11 Ways to Walk" (2012); "For Almira" (2012); "Anatomization" (2012); "Every.Body.Hunts" (2011); "Hunting" (2010); "Body Memory" (2009); "Projeto Respiro" (2008); "30 more minutes of your time" (2006); "Las Palomas" (2005); "A Butcher’s Tale" (2002); "Ms. Treetops" (2002); "A little Game" (2001): "Senior Choreographic Showcase/Juilliard" (1996).

As a teacher of contemporary dance and classical ballet, she taught at the Conservatory of Music in Coimbra, F.O.R (Olga Roriz) and at Companhia Olga Roriz, Forum Dança, Quorum Ballet, Stageworks Rui Horta in the play Hierarquia das Nuvens, Escola de Dança do Conservatório Nacional, Balé Teatro Guaíra (BR) and Matsumoto Performing Arts Center (JP).
