The Master's Course in Dance Teaching has as its main objective the qualification for teaching practices in specialized dance education schools, providing adequate and comprehensive training that, at the same time, meets the legal requirements for working in these highly differentiated contexts.
From this perspective, the programme provides future dance educators with the artistic, pedagogical, didactic and methodological skills essential for the qualified performance of teaching in the specific domains of Classical Dance Technique, Contemporary Dance Technique, Creative Dance and other artistic disciplines included in the curricula of specialized artistic education schools in dance.
As a distinctive feature of its training plan, this programme includes internships, initiation into professional practice in a real work context, which guarantees future teachers knowledge of the artistic and social universe of their target audiences and the perception of organizational dynamics of specialized dance education schools. This is a factor that facilitates the process of entering the job market and has strongly contributed to the 100% employability rate associated with the course.
Course organization
1st year (1st and 2nd semesters)
Specialization Course consisting of a set of curricular units, organized around the areas of knowledge and training components, essential for teaching, within the scope of specialized education in Dance.
2º ano (3º e 4º semestres curriculares)
Internship of a professional nature, subject to a final report, which can be developed in the areas of Classical Dance, Contemporary Dance or Creative Dance.
The course concludes with a Public Defense Test of the Final Internship Report in front of an expert panel set up for this purpose.

Specialized dance teaching schools with which ESD has a cooperation protocol for carrying out professional internships.
Candidates' profile
The Master's Degree in Dance Teaching is aimed at advanced level dance professionals, with solid technical mastery in the area of Classical and Contemporary Dance and knowledge in the field of Creative Dance, who seek to develop their teaching skills from an artistic, pedagogical, didactic and methodological perspective, with the purpose of intervening in specialized dance education contexts.
Candidates should present with a minimum of 120 credits in Dance Practice and Dance Theory (neither of the two with less than 25 credits alone) who cumulatively hold:
- Academic, scientific or artistic professional curriculum, which is recognized as attesting to the ability to carry out this cycle of studies;
- A bachelor's degree (or legal equivalent), preferably in the dance area.

Certified training accreditation or professional experience
Accreditation consists of the process, including the administrative act that results from it, by which the relevant skills whose acquisition was demonstrated by the applicant are validated and measured, and are translated into a determined number of ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits.
The student can request accreditation for Certified Training and Professional Experience.
Workers-Students
The student may request Worker-Student status and, provided the agreement “Pedagogical Contract — Worker-Student” is established, guarantee the ability to meet the objectives of the curricular unit and the maintain possibility of evaluation.
