Dean

The Dean is the highest governing entity and the representative for ESD externally.

 

The Dean is responsible for:

  1. Representing ESD before other entities of the institution as well as the outside world;
  2. Managing ESD services and approving the necessary regulations;
  3. Approving the school calendar and timetable for teaching tasks, after consulting the Scientific-Technical Council and the Pedagogical Council;
  4. Carrying out the deliberations of the Scientific-Technical Council and the Pedagogical Council, whenever these are binding;
  5. Preparing, and submitting for superior approval, the school’s plan and its report on its own activities;
  6. Setting the value of tuition;
  7. Awarding school prizes, after consulting the Scientific-Technical Council and the Pedagogical Council;
  8. Carrying out the functions delegated to him by the President of the IPL;
  9. Carrying out other functions as stated by law or the relevant statutes currently in place.

ESD Dean: Samuel Rego

Member of the board of directors of the public enterprise which manages the Companhia Nacional de Bailado and the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos (OPART, E.P.E.) between March 2016 and July 2019. Deputy general director at the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage, responsible for the portfolio of management of Museums, Palaces and Monuments between January 2015 and February 2016. General Director of the General Directorate of Arts, between July 2011 and January 2015. Director of Camões - Institute of Cooperation and Language in Galicia, where he was also a reader at the University of Santiago de Compostela and Director of the Portuguese Cultural Center in Vigo. Project Manager at the Portuguese Institute of Architectural Heritage between 2002 and 2004. Researcher at the Centre for Art History at the University of Évora between 2000 and 2002.

Rego holds a master’s degree in Community Policies and Territorial Cooperation from the University of Minho (2010) and a Postgraduate degree in Urban Qualification from the Faculty of Engineering of the Portuguese Catholic University (2005) and a graduate degree in History - Cultural Heritage, University of Évora (2002).

Rego also has the Advanced Public Management Course, General Directorate for the Qualification of Workers in Public Functions (INA), 2012; the Project Management Course, Porto Management School — University of Porto, 2009; Cultural Diplomacy — Institute for Cultural Diplomacy Berlin, Germany, 2008.
